My first hint that summer will be here soon--Fresh peonies at the Rue Cler flower market. A happy moment indeed!
I just returned from a fantastic trip to Cannes for the 64th Annual Cannes Film Festival where the film industry took over this glamorous beach town. I love films and Hollywood glam, so I guess I was in the perfect setting. Cannes was filled with energy, tuxedo clad men, celebrities, and endless fun. The festival was everything that I expected from the beach parties, clubs, and hotel bars to the fabulous restaurants, celebrity sightings and the red carpet. I felt that no matter where I was in Cannes, I was able to immerse myself in the experience. It was definitely worth the trip!
If you plan on visiting Cannes during the festival next year, book your hotel early. Surprisingly, you can find moderately priced hotels in Cannes during the festival. But, once you are here expect to go over budget for food and drinks.
Cannes is filled with a variety of dining options at various price points. But, if you want to really experience Cannes try to splurge a little bit. During the day, reserve a table for lunch at the Hotel Martinez. It's the ideal spot for people watching and delicious food. Before you head to a party or dinner, stop by the Carlton hotel or the Hotel Majestic for champagne or wine. For a mid-priced locale for lunch or dinner, dine at the Hotel Splendid, sit outside, and order a Caesar salad or pizza.
To be in the heart of Cannes and to catch a glimpse of the red carpet, walk along the water on La Croisette--the main street in Cannes where you will find landmark hotels, fine restaurants, beach clubs and theaters.
For a quiet moment away from the crowded streets, head to Old Cannes where the narrow cobble stone streets house specialty boutiques and offer a nice selection of traditional French and Italian restaurants. For more retail therapy, head to Rue Antibes. If you need a day or two to relax by the water, reserve a beach chair at one of the many beach clubs in town--Nikki Beach or Baoli Beach are perfect locations for soaking in the sun.
Cannes is located in the south of France and is accessible by train, boat, or private plane. You can fly into Nice, which is about 45 minutes away.
